EXCURSIONS WEDNESDAY 30TH JUNE
There will be two excursions available after lunch on Wednesday afternoon. LAUGHARNE AND DYLAN THOMAS BOAT HOUSE
The excursion will include a visit to the Dylan Thomas Boathouse. Dylan Thomas was born in Swansea but his family roots were in Carmarthenshire and it was this county that provided him with a constant source of inspiration. He lived at the Boathouse for the last four years of his life, during which time many major pieces of work were written - including Under Milk Wood. The Boathouse, where Dylan and Caitlin lived with their children - Aeronwy, Llewelyn and Colm from 1949 to 1953, is now a heritage centre. The house features audio-visual presentations, original furnishings and memorabilia, a themed bookshop, tea room, viewing platform and terrace. Set in a cliff overlooking the glorious, 'heron priested' Taf Estuary, the Boathouse offers a fascinating visit.

There will be a guided tour of Laugharne with afternoon tea at Dylan’s former home, now the Seaview Guesthouse.

GOWER TOUR
The excursion will start with a guided tour of the Gower Heritage Centre, set in the heart of the Gower peninsula, the UK’s first area to be designated an ‘Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty’. The Centre is a visitor attraction and rural life museum based around a working 12th-century water-mill. Afternoon tea will be served. Followed by a guided coach tour of the Gower Peninsula.

There will be an opportunity to walk on Rhossili Bay, which is the most westerly bay on the Gower peninsula and bears the full might of the Atlantic swells. It is the most consistent surfing beach on Gower, with the biggest waves at the north end, at Llangennith. It is a dramatic environment with Rhossili Downs towering above the vast expanse of beach that stretches for three miles. Heading west along the cliff path towards the end of the peninsula there is Worm's Head, a mile long serpent-like promontory jutting out into the ocean.
